Some research paper shows –
The results show that cryogenic treatment improves mechanical and thermal properties of H13 tool steel.
Tensile strength increases from untreated to heat treated largely while elongation percentage decreases showing transformation of austenite to martensite (brittle).
Percentage of Elongation and tensile strength increase from heat treated to cryogenic treated sample because of significant transformation of retained austenite (result in brittle failure) to martensite completely and precipitation of carbides.
Through Charpy U- notch test, it was concluded that impact strength of H13 specimen decreases from untreated to heat treated largely while it further decreases after cryogenic treatment.

The project also involved performing thermal cyclic test on H13 by constructing a thermal cyclic testing machine based on four bar mechanism.
Thus through the various tests that were conducted, it was concluded that cryogenic treatments enhances the property of die and improves its life.
